Writing Program Administration
Working as a writing tutor, consultant, and administrator enabled me to obtain experience with writing across the disciplines and more advanced writers–both upperclassmen and graduate students. At OU, I served as an assistant to the director of First-Year Composition. In this position, I learned about the administrative factors influencing how writing programs are managed, as well as invaluable leadership skills. In particular, training new and experienced writing instructors required extensive collaboration with other administrators. Furthermore, increasing access to resources and advocacy demanded novel approaches to curriculum design and constant feedback from instructors, students, and various departments. Currently, I serve as a consultant for the Graduate Writing Center at Penn State. Working with mostly multilingual graduate students writing across the disciplines combined with recent experience tutoring freshman writers at Penn State Learning provides me with writing program administration experience from the perspective of academic support centers.
